DM x Dutch Innovation Community (DIC)
In a Nutshell
What does DM do within the Dutch Innovation Community?
DM supports entrepreneurs, scale-ups, and innovative organizations within and around the Dutch Innovation Community (DIC) with legal issues related to growth, collaboration, and technological development.
This can include ICT contracts, SaaS agreements, software development, privacy, liability, and IT disputes, as well as corporate law matters, investments, partnerships, contracts, acquisitions, governance, and legal proceedings.
On behalf of DM, Melvin van Tiel is the primary point of contact for entrepreneurs within the community. When necessary, he consults with fellow specialists at DM, including Olivier van Hardenbroek as a VIRA attorney, and Marina Verberkmoes-Cota and Rik Buitenhuis for corporate law matters.
Legal Certainty in an Innovative Environment
Innovative companies make decisions at a rapid pace. New software, platforms, AI applications, and data-driven services—the opportunities are vast, but the company may face legal issues at every stage, whether regarding contracts, intellectual property, liability, privacy, or the structure of a partnership.
These issues don’t have to be any more complicated than necessary. DM helps DIC members address legal questions in a timely, practical manner and in clear language, while keeping in mind the commercial and technical context in which you operate.
Collaboration with the DIC
The Dutch Innovation Community brings together entrepreneurs, professionals, knowledge institutions, and innovative organizations around entrepreneurship, technology, and innovation.
This environment aligns well with DM’s approach. We believe that legal guidance is only truly valuable when it aligns with the company’s day-to-day operations: fast, expert, clear, and focused on sustainable growth.
Within the DIC, we share our knowledge with entrepreneurs working on new products, digital services, technological applications, or scalable business models. We do this through knowledge sharing, practical insights, and personalized guidance whenever legal questions arise.
Our areas of expertise: how do we assist DIC members?
Innovative companies often face legal questions across multiple areas of law simultaneously. DM therefore offers legal support for the following issues:
- ICT law and digital services
SaaS and SLA contracts, software licenses, cloud and outsourcing, terms and conditions for digital products, liability, and IT disputes—for example, in arbitration before the SGOA. - Intellectual Property
Protection of copyrights, trademarks, and other IP rights. - Privacy, Data, and Compliance
Processing of personal data, data-driven services, GDPR compliance, and mitigating risks in digital processes. - Corporate Law and Growth
Shareholder agreements, investments, governance, partnership agreements, mergers, and acquisitions. - Contracts, Liability, and Disputes
Drafting, reviewing, and negotiating contracts. If an amicable resolution isn’t possible, we’ll litigate when necessary.
Specialized Legal Support
Because DM is a full-service firm, we quickly consult with colleagues specializing in employment law, lease law, administrative law, or tax law when those issues arise.
Who is this service relevant for?

- startups and scale-ups
- SaaS companies
- Software developers
- CTOs and CISOs
- IT service providers
