Compensation veterans

Compensation for personal injuries suffered by veterans

Are you a veteran who suffered physical or psychological injury during your military service? Examples include injury from a roadside bomb or Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD). If the ABP recognized your service under "Article 4," you may be eligible for personal injury compensation. This compensation acknowledges the lasting physical and mental impact of your service. Our military law specialists are ready to provide expert and empathetic legal assistance.

Are you eligible for compensation as a veteran?

You may be eligible if you belong to one of the following groups:

  • Veterans who were discharged on or after July 1, 2007;
  • Veterans who were discharged before July 1, 2007, but applied for a Military Disability Pension (MDP) on or after June 1, 2012.
  • Yugoslavia and Lebanon veterans;
  • Veterans with an Ereschulduitkering (debt relief) benefit and additional residual damage;
  • Veterans who fall under the Full Compensation Implementation Regulation (UVS/RVS).

Full Compensation Implementation Regulation (UVS/RVS)

This program provides legal compensation for service-related conditions and applies to surviving relatives. Deployments to Afghanistan, Iraq, Mali, Lebanon, and the former Yugoslavia are covered, among others.

How is compensation for personal injury determined for veterans?

When determining compensation for military personnel, a comparison is made between your situation with and without the injury. This involves looking at how your life would have been without the service-related condition. This complex process requires legal expertise, and we will guide you through it step by step.

Important items of damage for veterans

1. Loss of earning capacity: As a result of your service-related condition, you may no longer be able to work or continue your career. This loss of income and pension rights can be significant.

2. Loss of Independence and Self-Sufficiency: This includes additional costs for domestic help or childcare. It may also be necessary to hire someone to help with home maintenance.

The ABP plays an important role for veterans with personal injury

The ABP plays an important role for veterans with service-related conditions. With a Military Disability Pension (MDP), you often have access to additional benefits. Your care coordinator at the Veterans Institute or the ABP website can provide more information.
