The Hague Abduction Convention: what have we learned?

International Children's Day has the aim to improve the welfare of every child. Yearly more than 200 children are abducted in the Netherlands by one of their parents and taken abroad, or abducted abroad and taken to the Netherlands. For more than 40 years, the Hague Abduction Convention tried to spread awareness and raise attention for international child abduction. In her essay submitted for the IAFL European Chapter Young Lawyers Award 2021, Irene Kroezen reflects on the achievements of the Hague Abduction Convention in the past 40 years, but also proposes the changes that could be made in the future.
