Michaël van Basten Batenburg
Expertise
Michaël is one of the founders of the firm and a partner in the litigation department. He specializes in civil cassation before the Supreme Court, but is a generalist who is also familiar with the subdistrict courts and the Court of Appeal, as well as the Council of State and the Central Council of Appeal. Michaël has been assisting clients for over thirty years, driven by his interest in the law and his desire to make a difference for the client.
At the Supreme Court, Michaël has authored numerous landmark judgments in the fields of employment law and procedural law. His track record shows that he is a very versatile and creative lawyer who knows where the opportunities lie in cassation.

For clients, Michaël is a trusted advisor. He is attentive to their interests, thoughts and wishes. His broad experience in the legal profession means that lawyers also like to ask him for advice.
His knowledge of procedural law and litigation strategy is extensive, which comes in handy during negotiations: "At the end of the day, a client's goal is to come out better, and that may be through litigation, but it is better to come out together."
Michaël is registered in the fields of employment law and cassation and in this context acquires sufficient training points each year, as required by the Dutch Bar Association. He is a member of several professional associations, such as the Association of Civil Cassation Lawyers (VCCA), the Association for Employment Law and the Hague Association of Employment Lawyers (HVAA). Michaël regularly publishes blogs and academic articles and teaches colleagues in the field of procedural law.
